About Highland CC

Highland Cricket Club are based in Inverness, Scotland, and play their games in the NOSCA (North of Scotland Cricket Association) league, with games against teams throughout the Highlands, Moray and Grampian, from Fort William to Huntly. Home games are played at Fraser Park, Kingsmills Road, starting at either 1 or 2 pm on Saturdays.

History

In 1956, NOSCA invited an Inverness Welfare League Select to take part in the reserve K.O. cup. After convincing wins over Tain, St Duthus and RAF Kinloss 2nd XI, the team lost narrowly to a strong Elgin 2nd XI in the final at Nairn.

Following their almost successful cup run, the players expressed interest in forming a team which could seek entry into the NOSCA reserve league. A committee was formed, and the name 'Highland' chosen. In 1957, the application to join the reserve league was successful, and Highland CC was born. The club was immediately successful, going undefeated in 1958, and winning the reserve league and cup. The committee this first year comprised Ken Burke (President), Jim MacPherson, Bobby Robertson, Willie John Mackintosh, George Wood and Alex Munro, who was secretary for 16 of the clubs first 17 years.

Having defended the reserve league trophy in 1959 and 1960, Highland began to seek admission into senior competition, beginnign with the senior KO cup in 1959, and the senior league in 1963. Times were harder in the senior league, and the team struggled for some years before the reforming of the Welfare League provided a source of players, and in 1976 Highland were able to field a second XI.
